When women are educated, society grows. It is that simple.
Raising girls today comes with real challenges. They need a sound, modern education, good nutrition and health care, and a safe, caring environment in which to grow into confident young women. Each of these is essential.
Maharshi Karve believed that "Women's education and national development are closely linked." Guided by this belief, he founded MKSSS. Today, MKSSS runs 75+ units across 7 locations in Maharashtra and serves more than 35,000 girls.
In the 1990s, India began to change rapidly, and education changed with it. MKSSS embraced this change, knowing that our girls would need wider opportunities than ever before. We opened institutes in pure sciences, humanities, commerce, information technology, architecture, engineering, fashion technology, nursing, management and vocational training. Each is known for the quality of its education. We regularly update our courses with guidance from industry experts, so that our students are prepared for the opportunities ahead.
All our institutes are self-reliant. Even so, MKSSS continues to support needy and deserving students through scholarships.
MKSSS also serves as a guardian to more than 700 girls in need. They live in our hostels, and we provide for all their needs. At Kamshet, near Lonavala, we run a residential school for tribal children from remote and underserved communities, giving them access to modern education. We care for their studies, their well-being and their overall development.
Yet even today, many girls are kept out of school, and with that, out of a better future. Much work remains. MKSSS aims to reach every child in need, and we cannot do this alone. We need the support of the entire community.
