In the year 1996; 100th year of Maharshi Karve Stree Shikshan Samstha, (MKSSS) Pune; resolved to identify the outstanding work done by Baya Karve.

Baya- wife of Maharshi Karve led her entire life in the field of education and social welfare. Her work was parallel to the work of her husband although totally unparallel with the respect of time then. However, out of all odds she dedicated her complete life for the cause of women; owing to which the women in India have reached today’s modern stature. As recognition to her contribution to Indian society, every year MKSSS confers an award in her name- ‘Baya Karve Puraskar’.

MKSSS bestows this prestigious award upon a lady social worker for her exemplary contribution in social or educational field. Her determination and dedication towards the uplift of society is revered by awarding her “Baya Karve Puraskar”. Since 1996-97 this award is being given in the memory of Baya Karve; which consists of Rs. 51,000/- cash and a memento.

Renowned personalities from the various fields of the society have graced the occasion of “BAYA KARVE AWARD CEREMONY” by their presence. They were Justice Y.V Chandrachud, Dr. V.G. Bhide, Smt. Vijaya Patil, Smt. V. Radha, Shri Madhukarrao Choudhry, Dr. Kolaskar, Prof. N.S. Farande, Dr. Raghunath Mahelkar, Shri Anant Dixit, Smt. Poornima Advani, Shri Girish Prabhune, Shri Arun Nigavekar, Dr. Arun Tikekar. Dr. Narendra Jadhav (Vice-Chancellor Pune University).

Every year around November to January, an advertisement is published through the print media for inviting applications from the social workers. Projects or proposals are collected from the society with this reference. An eminent selection committee, from outside MKSSS selects the right and proper awardees for the year based on several aspects and suppositions.
